Down Neck School House
The term "Down Neck" is repeated often in old cards and Port literature. Originally, there was a hill behind the Mill Pond which was topped with this beautiful school house. The hill was largely sand, and was mined like the rest of the sand pits and parts of Port Washington North and used for the concrete that built Manhattan. The main water treatment plant for the town is now on the site, just behind the Dodge Homestead.
